Popcorn Sofa | March Genre Movies

OK February was a pretty lackluster month for SFF and other genre movies.  So what's up for next month? Well the highlight of course is the big screen adaptation of the hugely popular YA SF novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I am also hopeful for John Carter.

March 9: John Carter is first out of the gate for March. Based on the Barsoom fantasy series of novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs written beginning in 1911, this is Pixar's first live action picture. Let's see if Pixar can bring its solid reputation and success from animation to live action. For those interested, you can download free ebook and audiobook versions of all of the books through Project Gutenburg and VoxLibris. Easy links for these are found at Wikipedia.

March 23: The Hunger Games is the first movie of a likely trilogy or more. Casting seems excellent and fingers are crossed for a hit.

March 30: Mirror, Mirror is a comedy fantasy based on the Snow White fable. Julia Roberts stars as the evil queen with an over-the-top portrayal reminiscent of Glenn Close as Cruella De Vil in 101 Dalmations.

March 30: Wrath of the Titans is classical fantasy starring Sam Worthington (Avatar).
