Saturday Book Finds

Saturday book finds on the railing of my deck
While my son was visiting from Florida last month we discovered a very cool clearance bookstore in Fergus Ontario called Cherry Hill Entertainment (Fergus by the way is where Diana Gabladon did a lot of her research for the Outlander series at the Fergus Highland Games). I finally had a chance to drop by and in a quick pass through the store picked up the  books shown above including some terrific urban fantasy, paranormal, YA and fantasy. Total cost lest then 80 bucks. All were brand new in either trade or hardback editions. Score! When I will get around to reading them is another story, but who can turn away from book bargains?

Tell me about the best book score you have made recently?

  1. Uhh...earlier this year I made a score of a lot of books. But they were mostly preorders. Does that count? ;)

I truly enjoyed the Wicked series by Debbie Viguie and Nancy Holder. I read it years ago when they were first published and there was a massive cliffhanger from the last book, book 4 for me, story 2 of book 3 for you. Was sooo glad that the finale was published finally! Read it awhile back and was very glad to have had the series finished. There was a long wait for me!

  2. Looks like you have some great books there. I haven't yet read Before They are Hanged but I've heard good things about it. While most of the reviews I read of Red Seas Under Red Skies were lukewarm I listened to it on audio and loved it. Jean and Locke are two of my favorite book characters. I hope you enjoy the book as well.

  3. Jessica all book scores count :) I have heard a lot about the Wicked series by Debbie Viguie and Nancy Holder, so for 99 cents I had to grab it. Now I just need to find books 1 and 2. Lots of great YA in this batch.

Simcha I read Lynch's Lies of Locklamorra which I enjoyed so had to get the followup. I agree they are great characters.

  4. Wondrous Strange and Captivate are 2 of my favorites.. enjoy

    Score indeed

  5. Hi Doug!

I went into Borders (Chapters for you) and they were having a bargain book sale, buy one bargain book, get one free. Now, you'd think they'd have a bunch of crappy books for sale, but they were all excellent, Shiloh Walker-paranormal, Joey Hill-paranormal, Marta Acosta (I mean, wow!) and lots more. Each book was between 2-3 dollars, and I came home with 16, paying for 8 for a total around 20 bucks! Can you believe it?? I wanted to go back, but after seeing my book binge, my husband flat out refused :(, lol. One of these days, I'm going to find time to read them all!!

    Dottie :)

  6. O/P glad you recommend them. I'd seen some good reviews which is why they went in the basket.

Dottie now that sounds like quite the haul. Spouses just don't understand us about our books :)

  7. My local Hastings just clearanced out a ton of YA fantasy and scifi/fantasy books. Kelley Armstrong, Jeffrey Overstreet, Jim Butcher. :) $3-5 each. Yay. Spent way too much money b/c they were B1G1 for $1.

  8. I have 2 awesome used bookstores by my house. My friend and I didn't even know they were there until her daughter's 8 year old friend pointed them out to us :-) The prices are great and the people are so helpful.

  9. Recently my biggest book score is from my Kindle. I just got it and downloaded TONS of books for free. I was like a crack addict hitting the buy button over and over again.

  10. Nice haul, Doug!

I bought a YA title by Jaclyn Moriarty from my local KMart for $1.50. I still can't believe it and I've kept the receipt so people will belive me!
