Young Adult Genre Releases for September 2010

Here are the September releases for Young Adults. They are multi-genre and cover fantasy, science fiction, paranormal, and supernatural/horror. As Sookie Stackhouse would say from her word of the day calendar, the word is plethora. This month brings a plethora of choices. If I have omitted or missed any titles be sure to let me know and I will update the list. Dates are approximate and usually refer to an Amazon.com release date. The list does not cover reprints with some exceptions. Technically the Morganville Vampires Vol. 2 is a reprint but it is the first time the two novels have appeared together.

I loved this quote from Dust City by Paul Weston - "Ever since his father’s arrest for the murder of Little Red Riding Hood, teen wolf Henry Whelp has kept a low profile in a Home for Wayward Wolves . . ." Going to add this one to my list. My favourite cover is The Replacement and Twelfth Grade Kills doesn't work for me at all. Plain Kate (Bow), Wired (Wasserman), Rot and Ruin (Maberry), and Past Midnight (Purnhagen) are buys for my TBR shelf.

You can also view the Urban Fantasy / Paranormal Romance Releases list. Happy September book buying! Tomorrow I will post the September Fantasy list...

ANTHOLOGIES

Zombies vs. Unicorns
Cassandra Clare, Libba Bray, Maureen Johnson, Meg Cabot, Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan, Holly Black
September 21, 2010
It's a question as old as time itself: which is better, the zombie or the unicorn? In this anthology, edited by Holly Black and Justine Larbalestier (unicorn and zombie, respectively), strong arguments are made for both sides in the form of short stories. Half of the stories portray the strengths--for good and evil--of unicorns and half show the good (and really, really bad-ass) side of zombies. Contributors include many bestselling teen authors, including Cassandra Clare, Libba Bray, Maureen Johnson, Meg Cabot, Scott Westerfeld, and Margo Lanagan. This anthology will have everyone asking: Team Zombie or Team Unicorn?

Something happened on my parents' research trip in Charleston—and now I'm being stalked by some truly frightening other beings. Trying to fit into a new school and keeping my parents' creepy occupation a secret from my friends—and potential boyfriends—is hard enough without having angry spirits whispering in my ear. All I ever wanted was to be normal, but with ghosts of my past and present colliding, now I just want to make it out of high school alive…

The Replacement
09/21/10
Mackie Doyle is not one of us. Though he lives in the small town of Gentry, he comes from a world of tunnels and black murky water, a world of living dead girls ruled by a little tattooed princess. He is a Replacement, left in the crib of a human baby sixteen years ago. Now, because of fatal allergies to iron, blood, and consecrated ground, Mackie is fighting to survive in the human world. Mackie would give anything to live among us, to practice on his bass or spend time with his crush, Tate. But when Tate's baby sister goes missing, Mackie is drawn irrevocably into the underworld of Gentry, known as Mayhem. He must face the dark creatures of the Slag Heaps and find his rightful place, in our world, or theirs. Edward Scissorhands meets The Catcher in the Rye in this wildly imaginative and frighteningly beautiful horror novel about an unusual boy and his search for a place to belong.
