Cover Art - Sacrifice by Dakota Banks

Not sure if this is final, but it sure looks good. The cover for Sacrifice by Dakota Banks is the second book in her Mortal Path urban fantasy series due for release this August. Very much looking forward to Maliha's next adventure.

A demon's enslaved executioner--a ravager of lives and souls--Maliha Crayne has been reborn, willing to sacrifice her immortality for a chance at freedom ... and salvation. Now she has an opportunity to prevent the death of thousands to help balance the countless lives she has obliterated over the centuries. To do so, she must locate and destroy an evil cabal of madmen in possession of a weapon of unspeakable power--and survive the immortal assassins who are now after her blood. But it means reverting to the old ways and surrendering once more to the darkness.

  1. Love it. :) I'm looking forward to this one too.

  2. Hey Michelle, people seemed to be hot and cold on the first book but I quite enjoyed the almost thriller feel to it.

  3. Hi Doug!

OMG!!! I want this book so bad! I really enjoyed book one. It feels like forever since the first book came out. Only a like longer to go now!

    Dottie :)

  4. It looks a lot like the Cover of Deadtown by Nancy Holzner.

  5. It does look like Deadtown, but a lot of covers are alike. The publishers seem to get on a run when they find one people like. At least this one looks like it's at night?

    I like it though.

  6. I have to agree with hwm. It's the cover of Deadtown - the flaming sword + a back drop of what looks like New York. It's still kind of fierce though.

  7. That was my first thought as well, same look/concept as Deadtown. Jenna Black's The Devil Inside cover also did the same basic concept, though the style of the art is a lot different. This isn't a concept that's used too much. Yet. Or maybe I've missed others if there are a lot of them.

  8. Thanks for posting my cover, Doug.

I checked out the cover of Deadtown and do find a similar concept. Wow - I like that flaming sword. When my editor talked about cover art with me before Dark Time came out, I said that I had a specific image in mind: Maliha from the back overlooking a scene that was relevant to the story, and the only thing that would change from book to book is the background. I also had Maliha in a realistic fighting outfit that she wears in the book.

I was pleased that my suggestion was taken for the series, but with changes made in the portrayal of Maliha. The only thing remaining of her fighting outfit was the braid she wears down her back. The rest is skin and skin-tight. Alas, skin sells.

I'm wondering if Nancy Holzner had the same vision for her character and her suggestion was taken. Wouldn't that be something?

  9. Was just reading this by RSS today and clicked in to make my comment: "Gee, looks just like Deadtown".... Guess I'm a little behind the times.
