Urban Fantasy Collaboration Contest

C.E.Murphy, author of the Walker Papers and Negotiator urban fantasy series wrote an interesting post this week about fanfic and collaboration that got me thinking about a contest. In her post Murphy stated that she liked Faith Hunter's Jane Yellowrock (Skinwalker and Bloodcross) series so much that she was inspired to write a fanfic that included her own Joanne Walker with Jane Yellowrock. They are now talking about a collaboration novella based on the idea. You can read the excerpt here.

So here is the contest. What urban fantasy or paranormal romance authors would you like to see collaborate and which of their characters would you like to see appear together? Have a plot idea - tell me about it. Leave your suggestions in the comments.

The winner will be randomly selected and receive their pick of any book from the January 2010 UF/PNR releases that I will post this week. Contest ends Sunday, January 3rd. I'll ship anywhere that the Book Depository delivers.

Blog, tweet, post on Facebook or other social network sites for an extra entry. Leave a comment here to let me know.

  1. The first two that popped into my head after reading this was Jennifer Roberson and Raven Hart. Finn was a favorite shape shifter character from Roberson's Cheysuli Chronicles. I'd like to see him teamed up with Seth, werewolf, from Hart's Savannah Vampire series.

As for plot ideas...not a clue.

  2. Hm tricky, well I love Elena from Kelley Armstrongs Women of the Underworld, so theme her up with Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs. She runs with the wolves, and they could theme up for something..but what, no strays, so done.
Evil cult has kidnapped the guys and they need them back

  3. Ilona Andrews and Patricia Briggs! Or, OMG! SIMON R. GREEN AND JIM BUTCHER.

Excuse me, I just had a small heart attack. Those would be SO awesome. John and Harry would get in SO much trouble together! Awesomesauce.

  5. I agree that Kelley Armstrong's Elena and Patricia Briggs's Mercy Thompson need to get together because they're both strong women surrounded by a lot of male werewolves.

  6. Kristin Cashore and Suzanne Collins? I think it would be awesome if Katsa and Katniss met and fought each other and/or other ppl with their guys as sidekicks XD

  7. Ooh, I would say Kim Harrison's Rachel and Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden would make for a great buddy-type story!
They might even have a little chemistry between them, and lord knows both of them could us a bit of good luck in the romance dept! ;-)

  8. I love Mercy Thompson, as well as Cal Leandros from Nightlife.

  9. The possibilities are making my head spin...

I'm going with a Riley Jenson and Elena Michaels mash up. As far as plot, I guess maybe something along the lines of both of them chasing after the same psycho path?

Although Blodeuedd's suggestion of Elena and Mercy is really good too!

Great post Doug. Thanks for the contest.

  10. I'd love to see Harry Connolly and Jim Butcher collaborate. They already have similar styles!

  11. Laurel K. Hamilton and JR Ward is a must!. In Caldwell, the Omega can make the dead rise from the grave to take over the city! The BDB boys call in Anita Blake, who through her powers of the aurdeur, sleeps through the whole male vamp population and takes down the Omega and his undead army.

She screws the Omega into the Anti-Phade and ends up pregnant with his future son- Bhlake.

  12. Patricia Brigg's Mercy Thompson has to team up with LKH's Anita Blake to teach her that it is possible to hang around shape shifters and vampires and not have sex with everyone.

Okay, here is my idea for real. Jennifer Rardin's Jaz Parks and Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels. Jaz needs help from The Order of Knights to catch a terrorist who is threatening to destroy all of Atlanta and Kate is up for the challenge.

  13. My head is spinnging on this. Kara Gillian from Mark of the Demon and Connor Grey from Mark Del Franco books. To fight some big bad. That would be awsome!

  14. Kim Harrison's, Rachel Morgan and Carrie Vaughn's, Kitty Norville - What a team that would be.
Combine my two favorite Urban Fantasy authors and their characters in a single story - WOW!
Have Rachel go on a road trip for a witch convention in Colorado and be interviewed on air by Kitty on her radio show.

Well I think and interesting combination would be the characters from Linnea Sinclaire's, Dock Five Series matched up with some Of Jim Butcher's characters. Should be an interesting combination lol...

  16. I would like to see Mercy Thompson and Rachel Vincent collaborate. I think Mercy & Faythe could be an interesting matchup.

  17. Laurell K. Hamilton and Charlaine Harris.
I would love it if Eric Northman had to have a territory conference with Jean Claude, and both bought their human lovers along for leverage. Anita tagging along because Jean Claude hopes her necromancy will influence Eric, and Sookie being bought because Eric hopes she'll pick something up from JC's werewolves.

I also think it would be nice for both leading ladies to have a face/off 'who wants me more' competition - because both Anita and Sookie are a little bit Mary-Sue when it comes to men. I wonder how each would feel to see the other woman receiving male attention - I think Jason would definitely hit on Sookie... and maybe Bill would succumb to Anita's ardeur.

  18. Hi Doug :)
Thank you for the interesting contest. I would love to see MaryJanice Davidson & Charlaine Harris team up. Queen Betsy and Sookie would be an interesting joint character story.
    :)
    Happy Holidays,

  19. Dru from Strange Angels and Betrayals (orphan now) and Allie Beckstrom - who could be a wonderfully absent minded (because of the magic-payment) mentor or guardian. Zayvion trying to help out Graves. I'd love to read something combining those characters. (Lili St.Crow and Devon Monk) I think they're both on Deadline Dames - It could work!

  20. I'd like to see Faythe Sanders from Rachel Vincent's Shifters series meet with Rose Hathaway from Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series. THey are both my favorite authors and I love both characters because they are both strong girls with crazy attitude and a big mouth. Both great fighters. It was a challenge to find them a common goal because they live in totally different worlds, but I could picture them fighting against vilains trying to expose the supernatural community. Faythe being a werecat and Rose dedicating her life to morois (vampires), I think it would be a ground where they could meet!

    Thanks for the giveaway =)

  21. I'd love to see Jim Butcher's Dresden (US)hook up with Mike Carey's Felix Castor (UK) somewhere neither of them has been before. They are in similar fields and are both pretty cynical and I think it would be great to see them both somewhere totally different. :)

  22. I would have to go with Angie Fox and Nicole Peeler. First, both series have talking dogs. :) I can just imagine the Biker witches crashing in Rockabill, Maine.

  23. Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels & Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden. That'd be awesome!!!!

  24. So Sookie popped into my head but I can't think of anyone to team her up with.

Hmmm...Faythe from Rachel Vincent's werecat series and Elena from Kelley Armstrong's women of the otherworld series.

They are both 'shifters' and the worlds they live in are quite similar. I think the Women of the Otherworld and the Werecats would fight well together.

  26. I would like to see Charlaine Harris' Eric with Keri Arthur's Riley. I know she has Quinn, but wouldn't this just be interesting to see?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Would like to see a collaboration by Jennifer Rardin and Savannah Russe, both have secret agents with unusual powers and both writers are fun to read and think their writing style and dark humor is compatible.. I think Jaz Parks and Daphne Urban would be able to entertain us immensely.....

  28. I haven't gone through and seen if they've been mentioned yet, but what about Keri Arthur's Riley Jenson & Quinn with Jeaniene Frost's Cat and Bones? I think those two would be an interesting pair.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'd like to see Frost's Cat and Bones in Anita Blake's world. Anita and Cat would get into it (a "Cat-fight?) while hunting the same vampire, and there would be no shortage of flirtatious, sexy vampires to attempt to woo Cat and tick off Bones.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Bride McKells from Gena Showalter's Alien Huntress series and Charlie Madigan from Kelly Gay's The Better Part of Darkness. I think it would be interesting to see Charlie work with another strong female character who happens to be a vampire.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I would love to see Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver characters to meet Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy ones in a classic conflict of vampires and werewolves.

  32. I'd like to see Toni Andrew's Mercy Hollings join forces with Rahel Vincent's Faythe Sanders. Would be interesting seeing them side by side.

  33. Mike Carey and Jim Butcher, they can have Dresden and Felix Castor meet up and fight evil on both shores.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think Kelley Armstrong's Savannah would be great meeting up with Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs. I love these two characters. A skinwalker and witch collab. What a team!

Not too sure about the plot. Maybe something to do with magic gone horribly wrong?

  35. wow, so many possibilties!

I would love to see Kelley Armstrong and Rachel Vincent team up. Or maybe Ilona andrews and Jeaniene Frost together. So many fabulous characters!

  36. I would love to see Anne Bishop work with Ilona Andrews, CE Murphy, or Patricia Briggs. There's something amazing in Anne's world and I'd love shifters to be added to the mix (although, she does already have some pretty cool characters there...). Or better yet, I'd love to see Ilona, Catie or Patricia do a collaboration too. There would be a -lot- of yummies in that mix, lol.

  37. As i am still very new to this Genre of books i only know a few authers, so this question is impossible for me to answer. Hopefully i will soon learn all about the authors and read their work so that the next time someone asks this question i will be able to say oh these two would be great together. I hope this doesn't stop me being able to enter your giveaway but i would understand if it did.

  38. Patricia Briggs and Jim Butcher and Ilona Andrews with Mercy, Jim and Kate. That's be one hell of a kickass novel.

  39. Harry Dresden (Jim Butcher) with anyone but I think he'd be cool with Jack Reacher (Lee Child). Different genres but they take care of bad business when no one else can/wants to. They both fight for whats right and both care about the innocent.

  40. I would like to see Harry Dresden (Jim Butcher) with Connor Grey (Mark Del Franco).
