Cover Art (Update) - Death's Excellent Vacation

According to Toni L.P. Kelner, editor of the forthcoming anthology Death's Excellent Vacation with Charlaine Harris, the cover has been revised to present a look with greater appeal to a male audience. Both covers are excellent (love the illustrative style) but what do you think? Are they over analyzing the market? Which do  you prefer?

  1. I like the new revised cover better. I don't dislike the original cover (at all), but the tail coming out of figure's dress is a little weird.

  2. A second vote for the revised cover and the tail on the first being weird.

  5. I'm liking the new cover more. It catches the eye more. There's just something about Death with his Scythe. You just don't see a lot of that on covers anymore.

  6. I'm glad they switched it. The little lady with the sun hat was a bit matronly looking.

  7. Wow folks we have a total consensus in favour of the new cover. I would never have predicted that. I thought a lot of people would like the whimsical nature of the original.

  8. The revised cover fits the title more. Especially for people who have not read any of the past anthologies of Toni and Charlaine. Those who had would see a woman with a tale, so she'd be a shifter of some sort and get the supernatural angle. With Death on the cover it just fits the title more and makes sense to the newbies.

I personally like the new cover a bit better though, just because it fits the title more. I've read the other anthologies, but still Death is death and this cover makes more sense. Less thinking involved!

  9. Well put Jessica. It gets the point across with greater clarity and still remains somewhat whimsical. Both are great covers either way.
