SciFi Sunday - Stargate Universe

Here is the teaser trailer for Stargate Universe which premieres October 2 on the SyFy channel. The cast includes veteran actor Robert Carlyle. I'm really looking forward to this based on the trailer. Fingers crossed.

Edgier and younger in tone, SGU will take the franchise in a dynamic new direction, appealing to longtime Stargate fans and first-time viewers alike. The two-part premiere of Universe is being directed by Andy Mikita (Stargate Atlantis, Stargate SG-1) and lensed by Rohn Schmidt (The Shield, The Mist). The series is expected to premiere in October 2009. SGU follows a band of soldiers, scientists and civilians, who must fend for themselves as they are forced through a Stargate when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard an ancient ship, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth. Faced with meeting the most basic needs of food, water and air, the group must unlock the secrets of the ship's Stargate to survive. The danger, adventure and hope they find on board the Destiny will reveal the heroes and villains among them.

  1. I'm a huge (but new) fan of the Stargate series. I actually spent my summer watching all ten seasons of SG-1, the five seasons of SG:A and the two DVD movies. I've been excited for this new installment to the franchise, but not actually seen a trailer until now. And now that I have.. whoa. Can't wait!!

  2. I like the darker, grittier look of Stargate Universe. Maybe if I cross my fingers too, it'll be great? Here's to hoping so...

  5. Morning Glow you are officially and SG fan. SGU really looks kick-ass. I love that they have upped the game with some film actors. Sounds like they are really committed to this one.

Donna I have a good feeling this will be a real adventure series. Quality SFX seem almost a given these days. As long as there are good scripts.

SGA was good. For me some of its weaknesses were the casting. SGU looks pretty solid.

True Blodeuedd, I also get the sense there will be more space-based than planetary stories. It seems like a bit of a cross of original Trek crossed with BSG.

  11. Debbie I have a good feeling. Even when SG1 and SGA had bad episodes they were usually entertaining. This looks like the biggest production yet.
