Fire by Kristin Cashore - Getting to Know the Characters Tour (Giveaway)

I've always liked the number eleven. SciFiGuy.ca is the eleventh stop on the blog tour for Fire by Kristin Cashore. I recently finished listening to the audio book version of Graceling and was totally engrossed in the characters and the world. I am currently about half way through Fire which is a companion story and I am finding it equally compelling and entertaining. You won't want to miss either book, but more importantly you will find that you don't have to have read Graceling to enjoy Fire. We also have a signed hardcover edition of Fire to give away. Details at the end of the post. Fire is officially in stores October 5.
Book Description:
She is the last of her kind...
It is not a peaceful time in the Dells. In King City, the young King Nash is clinging to the throne, while rebel lords in the north and south build armies to unseat him. War is coming. And the mountains and forest are filled with spies and thieves. This is where Fire lives, a girl whose beauty is impossibly irresistible and who can control the minds of everyone around her.

Exquisitely romantic, this companion to the highly praised Graceling has an entirely new cast of characters, save for one person who plays a pivotal role in both books. You don’t need to have read Graceling to love Fire. But if you haven’t, you’ll be dying to read it next.
And my sneak preview character from Fire is -
Tess, elderly but strong as an ox, is Hanna’s caretaker, and lives with her in the little green house on the castle grounds. What pretty, pale green eyes Tess has. But why do they look on Fire with such unfriendliness?

Read the Prologue and first two chapters of the book in this sampler preview.

The remaining tour stops this week are  -
The Book Smugglers (Tuesday, 9/29)
Fantasy Book Critic (Wednesday, 9/30)
Melissa's Bookshelf (Thursday, 10/1)

Visit Kristin Cashore's blog for links to the earlier tour stops so that you can read the previews of all of the other characters.

  2. I absolutely loved Graceling, so I can't wait to read Fire. I like both covers. But my favorite is the UK, mostly because we get a good visual of the main character. That is nice to have.

I also posted a link for the contest on my sidebar.

  4. Both covers are beautiful works of art. But if I have to choose, I like the UK cover better. To me it's just more eye-catching to a fantasy reader. The green and red contrast more dramatic.

  7. I'm really liking the UK cover, as well. The US cover is too monochrome. I like the color & atmosphere of the UK one - very dramatic. It would definitely catch my eye in the store. :0)

I haven't read either but I've heard so many good things that I have to get Fire! (due to peer pressure too! damn those girls..! hee)

I kinda love both covers but the UK's colors are SO vivid!

  10. I have heard so many great things about Graceling, and Fire sounds terrific, too! I prefer the UK cover, mostly because the green background is so striking. But I also like the beautiful woman in her lovely gown holding a bow. So unexpected, and really makes me interested in who Fire is.

  11. HI SCIFI, I like both of the covers. I am more drawn to the US cover, maybe because there is less going on. Do you think you could read FIRE first, then go back and read Graceling? I can't seem to find a copy locally. Which cover do you like best SciFi?

  20. I loved Graceling and I can't wait to read Fire! I really like both covers, so I can't say which is my favourite. I love the purple in the US cover, but the girl in the UK cover really stands out.

  21. When I first saw the US cover, I was struck by how simple, but powerful it was.. but when I saw the UK cover, I loved it even more than the US cover. I think it's a gorgeous image, the main character standing there. And the colors are beautiful.

  32. While both covers are intriguing, I agree teh colours on the UK make it 'pop' for me. The Green, the red, the storm and the wind all add to an air of atmosphere that you don't see very often. Looking forward to the release!

  37. I would have to say that I prefer the UK cover, it's a little but more bad*ss. There's no denying that it's a girl in a dress holding a bow and she looks like someone who could hit you with that arrow on her first try. I also like the storm behind her because it foreshadows the difficulties ahead for fire

  38. I like the US cover because it's more abstract. I don't want a good visual of the main character because I want it left to my imagination (especially in the case of Fire who is supposed to have supernatural beauty). The UK cover doesn't even get the hair right.

  45. Hey Doug, thanks for hosting me and Fire, and thanks for asking the question about the responses -- I'm loving the answers. I think I like both covers equally, and I'm not just saying that to avoid offending my design teams ^_^. For those who've mentioned preferring a Fire cover because it matches the Graceling cover they're familiar with -- you'll see that both Fire covers match if you check out my cover gallery, which also shows my French, German, Danish, etc covers. Anyway. Longest comment ever. Just wanted to say thanks, Doug, and hi to everyone!
