Avatar Fever

OK I admit this post has absolutely nothing to do with urban fantasy. Avatar created by James Cameron is a movie that has been on my most anticipated scifi film list since it was first announced. The trailer hit the streets today. No YouTube version yet. Yes there is a tremendous amount of CG but it looks like there is also an alien romance story in there too. Enjoy.

SYNOPSIS: Avatar is set during the 22nd century on a small moon called Pandora, which orbits a gas giant, and is inhabited by the tribal Na'vi, ten foot blue humanoids that are peaceful unless attacked. Humans cannot breathe Pandoran air, so they genetically engineer human/Na'vi hybrids known as Avatars that can be controlled via a mental link. A paralyzed Marine named Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) volunteers to exist as an Avatar on Pandora, falling in love with a Na'vi princess and becoming caught up in the conflict between her people and the human military that is consuming their world.

  1. I've seen mention of the movie all over the movie. I looks stunning! Definitely a movie I will head to see when it arrives.

  2. Donna I can't begin to imagine what this will look like in the theatres in 3D.

  3. Doug,

My son is going to be disappointed. When we saw the sneak peek at the movie he thought this was a live action movie based on the kids tv show 'avatar' that he loves so much.

But I am excited - this looks like a great movie. :) Thanks for the info.

  4. I attended the preview today, and it was incredible. Visually, it was amazing eye candy, and the story looks interesting as well.
We were in an IMAX theater, and the 3-D just jumped off the screen. Can't wait to see the movie in December.
If the movie is as good as the preview, James Cameron really hit it out of the park with this one!

@Michelle G: Avatar, the Last Airbender is also going to be made into a movie, directed by M Night Shaymalan. I think this movie is titled The Las Airbender, so as to minimize the obviously inevitable confusion.

  5. Renee,

My daughter pointed out my error last night. She and a friend went to see GI Joe and they saw the trailer for Airbender. :) I want to see both movies.

  6. Michelle as my kids are older I haven't come across a TV 'avatar' but this does look terrific. I have been a James Cameron fan since day 1.

Renee the predominant colour over here is green - with envy. Very cool that you saw the sneak preview.
