Laura Resnick is the author of the forthcoming Planeswalker novel, The Purifying Fire (July 2009), which is based on the popular fantasy card game Magic: The Gathering. Laura will be my guest next Wednesday, July 8, to talk about her new book and the challenges of writing an original fantasy novel based on an existing franchise. Laura has written romance as Laura Leone, as well as fantasy and urban fantasy most recently Disappearing Nightly. A sequel Doppleganger is due early next year and she reveals some of the details in my interview. You can read an excerpt here and visit Laura Resnick`s website here.
I have 5 copies of The Purifying Fire to giveaway, provided by the fine folks at Wizards of the Coast. The contest is open to entrants world-wide until Friday July 10 at Midnight.

July 9th - at Fantasy Café to talk about her research process, her experiences living abroad, and what book she’d love to take credit for if history could be rewritten.
SYNOPSIS:
Award-winning author Laura Resnick brings readers into the adventures of Chandra Nalaar, a young and impulsive mage on a collision course with destiny.
Fresh off an encounter in which the young pyromancer was able to show off some of her more enlightening talents, Chandra Nalaar has earned a place in a loose association of fire mages. But she still has a lot to prove...
Especially to the Order of Heliud, a sect of mages bent on imposing their draconian law across the land. The Order's ever-increasing influence is an affront to all Chandra holds sacred: freedom, individuality, the right of self-determination, and most of all, the right to blow things up.
A great pyromancer once said that destruction is best left to a professional, and Chandra is proving to be world-class in the art of boom. Unfortunately, that notoriety is about to cause her a whole lot of trouble...
Hello Doug,
ReplyDeleteAnother new author for me to add to my list. :)
I would have to say that right now my favorite game is Yahoo Literati - it is their take on Scrabble. I love trying to come up with high scoring words - but more than that, I love the challenge of making a word out of 2 consonants and 5 vowels. :)
M
Diablo is my favorite game

Thank you, just last week I saw Disappearing Nightly and hoped to myself that I'd see the sequel sometime soon.
ReplyDeleteI'll say my favorite game is Katamari Damacy. I know, such a girly game. It's got lots of cute graphics and music and lots of colors, plus its so easy to play: you push a big ball around. Which I like because I have no hand-eye coordination. I seem to be the only person I know my age who didn't have video games at all when I was a kid. Runner up is this hard to find game called Rez which I also like because it's easy to play, has cool graphics and sound. The end.
I actually officially followed you this morning before I saw this post! I'm psychic! :)
ReplyDeleteHi there! I really liked Disappearing Nightly and so glad the sequel is finally on its way! I am a follower, and my favorite game is Apples to Apples. I really enjoy games that inspire you to use your creativity, and which help you see a little bit of how people think!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good book so enter me :)

My favourite game is go fish because the kids enjoy it so much.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite game (without trying to suck up) is Magic: The Gathering. It's world is just so vast, and the game keeps changing, so it keeps itself fresh and entertaining. Also, every year it has its Core Set (upcoming: Magic 2010), allowing newcomers to come in, or for experts to easily teach new players.
ReplyDeletePerverted Scrabble is an oldie but a goodie. I have a 6 year old, so currently about all I play is 'Chutes and Ladders', Memory Game, Candyland and such.....favorite of the bunch is probably Candyland...all that Gumdrop Mountains, Ice Cream Float, Candy Cane Lane...what's not to dig?

I have a fond place in my heart for Clue, but as for video games? Any and every Disgaea.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite game is D&D. Sorry video games don't cut it.
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say Planescape: Torment is my all time favorite, followed closely by Baldur's Gate 2.
