Giveaway – “Santa Olivia” by Jacqueline Carey

I am thrilled to have 5 copies of Santa Olivia by Jacqueline Carey to giveaway courtesy of the wonderful folks at The Hachette Book Group and Grand Central Publishing. I am excited about this giveaway because this is one of my favourite urban fantasy books so far this year (see my earlier review here). You can read an excerpt of the first six chapters here and visit Jacqueline Carey’s website here where she discusses the book. This quote from author Eric Van Lustbader eloquently describes the book - "Jacqueline Carey has created a postmodern fable of enormous scope and force. Santa Olivia is at once a cautionary tale of people caught in a web of lies and creeping terror, and a love song to the beauty and power of being different. At the novel's heart is the kind of grace Carey is known for: an illumination of the strength that lies hidden inside all of us.”

The giveaway is open to residents of the U.S. and Canada (sorry no P.O. boxes) and will run until Midnight May 28, 2009, the eve of the official release of Santa Olivia. I will announce the winners the next day.

To enter:
  1. Leave a comment and tell us about a forthcoming book release that you are eagerly anticipating
  2. For an extra entry, blog about the Giveaway and leave a link in the comments.

Good luck to everyone!
Loup Garron was born and raised in Santa Olivia, an isolated, disenfranchised town next to a US military base inside a DMZ buffer zone between Texas and Mexico. A fugitive "Wolf-Man" who had a love affair with a local woman, Loup's father was one of a group of men genetically-manipulated and used by the US government as a weapon. The "Wolf-Men" were engineered to have superhuman strength, speed, sensory capability, stamina, and a total lack of fear, and Loup, named for and sharing her father's wolf-like qualities, is marked as an outsider.

After her mother dies, Loup goes to live among the misfit orphans at the parish church, where they seethe from the injustices visited upon the locals by the soldiers. Eventually, the orphans find an outlet for their frustrations: They form a vigilante group to support Loup Garron who, costumed as their patron saint, Santa Olivia, uses her special abilities to avenge the town.

  115. I can't wait for The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan to come out, and I can't wait to read Santa Olivia!

  116. Name just one? That impossible! Ok, not really, but there are so many to choose from!

I'm looking forward to On the Edge by Ilona Andrews, Dreamfever by Karen Marie Moning, Blood Promise by Richelle Mead, and Spider Touched by Jory Strong, just to name a few.

  118. many books I NEED to read, so little time..
    Rachel Vincent's Prey for one.
And panting with frustration over Karen Marie Moning's Dreamfever release (put back another week to around August 18).
And Bad Moon Rising by Sherrilynn Kenyon..

This book sounds super. I always look forward to your giveaways!
